Self-Care (realizing love for the first time)

14 steps to help you love yourself more. How I am healing my inner 5-year-old. (Turns out that all she needed was a hug).

The Human Experience

Have you been spending more time on you? Have you been noticing the world through different eyes? I noticed that at every opportunity in the past 2 years, I have become a wide-eyed observer of the human experience. I’ve been seeing things more clearly around me. I am listening intently to my own internal dialogue and habits.

I feel so deeply connected to my inner 5-year-old more than I ever have before. There is something special going on in my life. Does this sound like you? I mean, everything seems beautiful. The people I meet, the animals I constantly see and the incredible nature around me every day do not seem like an accident.

Being a Sponge

I cannot be the only one

Life right now feels magical. It’s almost like I am supposed to see some truly amazing stuff while I live up here on this mountain. I am meant to experience all of this. Each pinecone or shooting star seems to hold significance in my universe. It seems odd, but I find everything very interesting at this moment in life. I am a literal sponge.

I am reading more, learning how to do things I have never done, and loving it! How about you? Are you feeling like everything is a perfect teaching moment? Do you feel like you are getting answers? I am curious about how others are doing.

Waking up to new senses

My current state of being right now is kind of unusual. It feels like I am in a perpetual state of awe. I am constantly surprised to see, hear, touch, taste, and smell things with a completely different set of senses. Senses that have just opened up to me. I feel like a child that is discovering chocolate ice cream for the first time. It is so cool! Everything is under a microscope. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this type of thing? I know that I can’t be the only one.

Learning lessons every day

Living on a mountain can take your breath away. My photo

When we set out for a destination and arrive at the end, the result can be extrordinary and beautiful but unfortunately, this result can be very temporary. The middle parts are where we get to really experience life. I never question the lessons I am given anymore. I just go with the learning. I know down the road I may need this information.

“Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and truly all that comes under thy observation in life.”

Observe the syncronicities

Hey, funny story. We were in Costco last year buying some necessities for the home. I picked up a 6 pack of baking soda. When the hell was I going to use even 1 of these boxes? Well, a few weeks ago, I needed 3 boxes for a battery acid spill in the trailer basement. Seriously would never have bought that much baking soda at once. I set myself up for the future. This sort of thing happens all the time. I love it.

This is where I feel compelled to say that God lives me. I am just this wonderful puppet being put into situations as part of the whole experience. I am going with the flow. The synchronicities are such gifts.

Raise that vibration

How important is our body’s vibration and connection to Earth? I think it is the most important thing that we can do to regulate our own bodies for them to perform optimally. It’s time to consider the tone and the words we use when we speak to each other(and to ourselves). The vibes that we put out into the universe should match what we are trying to recieve. If we spend more time bettering ourselves, learning, and also teaching, we will project this positive vibration out to others all around us, in turn, bringing that high vibration back to us. Just radiate your love and joy and raise the vibration. We are one. Our lives are all intertwined in some magical way.

It’s Inside of You

The magic is in you. Original art by Shannon Braybrook

The magic is in ourselves. We don’t have anything outside of us. We create what we want to see and we see it. I understand this more than ever now. Since Dave and I changed our mindsets to align with what was good and right, we now have peace in our lives after so many years of health trauma. There have been some huge changes and way more self-love and healing.

Step Out of Fear

I changed my entire mindset so I could freely discover myself and step out of fear. My fear of everything has dramatically diminished. After months of practice in front of my mirror, my positive self-talk is off the charts! I work things through with kindness. Everything is new and a learning experience. There is no way I am going back to negative self-talk without a fight!

After decades of people pleasing, I realized that I was always trying too hard to impress the few that had little to do with my life. Currently, I am only surrounding myself with things that align with my life and my peace. I hope many can see the benefit of taking good care of themselves so they can better care for others.

You Choose Your Path

Changing one thing at a time, in small increments, can make a significant difference in your life. I have quite a bit of back pain so I had to start a new fitness routine. I used to trust my strong back to do heavy lifting, weights and jumping in and out of trucks. Now, I always have to consider every movement so I don’t end up on the ground, stuck.

I find that just walking up a hill for 10 minutes can kickstart my brain into heading down the right path. The hardest part is always the first step. Each day, I now make it a habit to move or work out in 10-minute sessions. This helps me to feel like I have succeeded without sacrificing my back. Exercise looks different in my 50’s.

Going With the Flow

Journalling daily reminds you of all the wonderful things to be thankful for.

I journal my gratitude every day as a reminder that my life is perfect as it is. I do not need to control anything but myself to get through my day. This little bit of control is responsible for my entire mindset change. I go with the flow and it has helped with anxiety and panic.

I have removed some of the “barriers” that kept me so afraid of everyday life. Those barriers are negative self-talk and doubt. I decided instead that I wanted to live and enjoy my best life. I stopped judging my choices and just make them and commit.

Don’t Panic

Removing the idea that barriers exist has allowed me to move more freely and with confidence. This confidence attracts my tribe. After learning a few techniques, I have been able to get a real handle on my issue with anxiety and panic. When I am in distress now, I feel myself being able to immediately slow my breath and meditate, going into a completely calm state in mere minutes.

Forgiveness

Have you forgiven yourself for all of the crazy decisions you made that never felt like a good lesson? Have you spoken to your inner 5-year-old with love and kindness? You have to be able to say “it’s going to be okay” and move on. It’s all just a dream anyways. We are what gives reality to our thoughts. As the only thing in charge of these thoughts, we get to create them. We can change them anytime too. There are no rules. Will you create some wonderful stories starting today?

Being able to focus on and give attention to the inner 5-year-old will always be beneficial. As we take good care of our mind, body, and spirit, the person we project to others starts to illuminate every living thing around them. The joy that others can feel when you radiate love is genuine and strong and I highly recommend it.

Spend quality time with yourself

As we treat our insides with love and care, we start to look at things with very different eyes. We care about things in a less arrogant way. We don’t need validation or a thank you. We just do the right thing that feels good. We spend quality time with ourselves more often. We don’t just veg in front of the TV. We can comfort our inner child with the many positive tools available nowadays online. This is truly wonderful.

In conclusion

How will you spend more time on you? What is your plan to help that little 5 year old inside of you? If you can just start with a few kind words and a little bit of movement each day, you will be able to change your mindset and your path. I know that I have always had this ability to feel joy but had to go through some life altering “stuff” in the middle of the joy. This “stuff” has created who I am today. Your “stuff” makes you who you are.

We are all perfect and always growing and changing. I hope you can find your true inner bliss and get inside to give your 5-year-old a well-deserved giant hug. Move on from the things that keep you stuck. It is time to start living your best life. Be well. Shannon
